NEW! CLUB CAR HAS TROJAN BATTERIES Whatever the market, Trojan Battery Company is a world leader in the development and manufacture of deep cycle batteries and systems. This status is due to a combination of high quality products, strong customer service and continuous innovation. A recent example of Trojan’s continuing innovation history is the development of a 12-volt deep cycle battery for Club Car. Established in 1925, Trojan Battery Company pioneered deep cycle technology by building the first golf car battery back in 1952. The battery powered an Autoette vehicle for a physically challenged golfer who wanted to continue enjoying the sport he loved. Since then, the company has become the leading provider of deep cycle batteries for a variety of applications, including floor machines, golf cars, utility vehicles, pallet jacks, renewable energy, telescoping booms, scissor lifts, disaster recovery, marine, RV, medical mobility, traffic control and neighborhood electric vehicles. What’s so special about deep cycle batteries? Unlike conventional automotive batteries designed for starting purposes, deep cycle batteries are made to move equipment. A deep cycle battery uses the stored energy of the battery the entire time a machine is operating. “Deep cycle batteries can easily power a golf car for two rounds of golf per day without a recharge. They are used the entire time a machine is on and they have the ability to recycle, so they can be used over and over,” said Trojan’s Director of OEM Sales, Rick Streelman. Trojan is known for delivering quality, reliability and dependability in all of its deep cycle products. This reputation has allowed Trojan to develop long-standing relationships with many established OEMs in various industries. Trojan’s strong share of the aftermarket is readily illustrated by the golf industry, where 98% of America’s leading courses use Trojan deep cycle batteries in their golf car fleets. “The deep cycle battery business is a relatively small niche within the overall battery industry,” according to David Godber, Executive Vice President of Sales. “Trojan Battery Company is the clear leader in this category, with a high market share. One of the reasons for this is that our engineering staff works directly with the OEMs in terms of battery design, with the 12-volt battery developed for Club Car being an example.” End users benefit from strong worldwide distribution, which makes the batteries easily available when it’s time to replace them. As an industry leader, Trojan has introduced several innovations. Of prime importance is its proprietary Maxguard™ Advanced Design Separator which increases run time and reduces maintenance. In addition, Trojan’s exclusive Alpha PlusTM paste formula delivers superior active material for longer battery life. Due to demanding performance requirements, all Trojan deep cycle products are produced with the same craftsmanship and attention to detail, which built Trojan’s reputation. This principle is known as Performance Engineering, and Trojan remains committed to advancing the spectrum of deep cycle battery technology. To this end, Trojan has continued to grow its line of batteries to include advances such as the Polyon™ case – a light yet sturdy case for heavy service applications, such as floor scrubbers, renewable energy systems and aerial work platforms. Trojan has also developed a line of maintenance free marine starting batteries and is set to introduce a family of non-spillable AGM deep cycle products for use in marine and RV applications. Work continues on a variety of other products, as Trojan places a heavy emphasis on innovation and design. Another reason for the company’s success is Trojan’s long-term retention of key accounts. Streelman believes the company’s customers feel they are getting a lot of value from the company. “We fix problems right away. We are not red-tape oriented,” he said. “We keep our commitments, treat people well and respond quickly.” Trojan’s applications engineering staff offers OEMs, distributors and end users a way to get answers to their technical questions over the phone. The corporate website offers 24-hour access to technical information, specifications, product information, a battery picker and a dealer locator. As for future plans,
Trojan’s intent is to continue building and designing batteries that
offer more and more utility. “Over the years, the company has differentiated
itself by being excellent technologists, and thus we are able to generate
higher performance values,” Streelman said. “One of Trojan’s hallmarks
has been to listen to each industry segment it serves.” When looking
ahead, Godber said it is important for Trojan to continue improving
products without adding cost. “We need to be even more efficient internally
so we can remain competitive,” he said. |
